This great book came along at the perfect time. I recently read a "how to book" on herb gardening, and than I wanted to pursue things even a little further for our soon to be sanctuary. I love nature, I am blessed as my property buts up agaist state game land, that's never hunted. Birds of all kinds pass by, but often never stop until now. This book is a soup to nuts guide for people who wanna pursue this hobby a little further. Actually a lot further, because this honestly covers it all. I felt as if I was having class with an Ornitholigist. These tips are useful practical, and best yet explained. The author sure is a master of detail. I give this book high marks from cover to cover, and I must admit I was a dunder head about what birds are about. Clearly the author has a spirit to teach as not once did I feel this book was talking down to me, but more on a common level for everyone to understand.

Backyard Bird Guide Attracting Wild Birds to Your Yard eBook Brian Grant Reviews

I liked this book because of the layout. It made the task of feeding, watering and providing shelter f or birds seem as though I could accomplish all of the above. I look forward to trying so.
Though not what I thought it would be, this book was quite informative and I enjoyed reading it. Good information contained here.
A few weeks ago my daughter and I took a class at our local park on bird watching, and we both really enjoyed it. We live on about a half acre and have a huge front yard and wanted to try to attract birds to our home so we could watch them from the windows and work on building our birding skills. I found that this book is a great resource to get started attracting birds to your yard. I wish that there was a bit more regional information so that I could get more specific recommendations for attracting birds in my region, but overall this book has proven to be a great resource for us. We are already seeing a HUGE increase in birds that are regularly visiting our yard!
I've been bird watching for several years but I have never taken the time to learn about my hobby. This book helped me take the next step into amateur birding in my own backyard.

Don't want to really attract them as they already live nearby. We start hearing them about 5am if not sooner.
Explains what backyard birding is all about.
Few colorful pictures. Tells you what you will need for which type of bird you want to attract and why it'd be good for your yard and surroundings.
Lots of information about a journal, keep birds happy with clean area, water and food. How to choose a good birdbath, feeder and birdhouse.
Charts and resources are also listed.
Before I begin, let me just say that I have the edition of this book. I don't know if there were just issues with transcribing it over to that format or what, but I was NOT impressed with this book.

I could hardly get past the rampant grammatical errors throughout this text. Not to mention, I don't think I picked up one useful bit of information that wasn't already basic backyard birding knowledge. I suppose this book could be a good place to start if you're interested in taking up attracting birds, but surely there are better options available. Don't spend your money. Try a free online source, like the Audubon website, or just google "backyard birding tips."
This book is aimed at novice bird watchers that live in Northeast. The book does not have as many photos as I was hoping for but the ones that were included are very nice. It also did not cover all the birds we see in our back yard (we do live in Massachusetts). I found information about how to attract some species of birds we do not see most interesting. None of the information is unique, you can find everything by searching the web. I was glad that I got the book during a free promo period.

We have a large number of bird feeders and I agree with the author that the commercial bird seed is not the bird's favorite food. If we fill one bird feeder with commercial bird seed and another with sunflowers, the bird feeder with commercial birdseed will hardly be touched where as sunflower seed will be gone very quickly. I also can confirm that cracked corn attracts a lot of larger birds including wild turkeys and blue jays.

We have not seen Orioles and Waxwings in our backyard, and I will try adding their favorite foods to see if they appear.
